At the near midway point of the season, teams are starting to hit their stride at Mosswood Park in Oakland. With a pair of unbeatens left, would this last another week? The red rubber ball was once again flying around the field.

Wrecking Balls knock off the explosive Green Grenades, 5-4

Two former champions (both undefeated) met on the dirt for a true clash of the kickball titans. Wrecking Balls jumped out early, scoring 3 runs in the opening frame using some small ball followed by a few deep line drives. In the bottom of the first inning, Green Grenades scored 1 run on a solo shot, putting WB on notice that the Grenades would not be going quietly. In the top of the 4th inning, Wrecking Balls managed to plate two runs, ending in a close play at home. Down 5 – 1 in the bottom of the 6th inning, Green Grenades finally started finding their kicking shoes, scoring 2 runs and a double to right field. Grenades plated one more run but ended up popping out to shallow Right Field, leaving the tying run on 2nd base. In Week 5, Wrecking Balls looks to stay undefeated when they play 2 Legit 2 Kick, while The Green Grenades look for a win against Don’t Mosswood Us

Pitches be Trippin’ and Almo$t Cla$$y draw at 1

Runs were scarce in the matchup on the grass between Almo$t Cla$$y and Pitches be Trippin. Almo$t Cla$$y jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on a double and a triple. It could have been more, but a great relay throw to home by Pitches nailed the runner at home plate. Throughout the rest of the game, both teams had legitimate scoring opportunities thwarted by the other team. Almo$t Cla$$y left the bases loaded in the third and Pitches did the same in the fourth. Down to their final inning, Pitches used small ball with a lead off single. A force out moved the runner from first to third and then Pitches found some grass in the outfield to tie the game at one. After a walk put the winning run in scoring position, Almo$t Cla$$y was able to get the third out and preserve the tie. In Week 5, Almo$t Cla$$y looks for a win against Toot It and Boot It, while Pitches be Trippin’ looks to defeat Rosé Riveters.

2 Legit 2 Kick shuts down Dad Bods, 11-0

The game between Dad Bods and Too Legit to Kick began with the Bods’ usual beer shotgunning ritual while the 2L2K players were trying to find someone to watch all their dogs. Seriously. The game itself became a clinic on small ball offense, with 2L2K relying almost exclusively on bunts and sacrifices. 2 Legit put up three runs in both the first and third innings without the ball leaving the infield to take the early 6-0 lead. 2L2K did break out the long ball in the fourth inning with a 2-run home run to put the game out of reach. DB was energized and game throughout, but struggled to get runners on against the Legit defense. The Bods did improve and started putting runners on in the later innings, but their best scoring threat ended in the 5th when the Legit center fielder made a juggling circus catch on his back for the third out. 2 Legit added some more bunting and defense in the 6th inning to close out the 11-0 win. In Week 5, 2 Legit 2 Kick looks to defeat Wrecking Balls, while Dad Bods looks for a win against Welcome to Death Row.

Toot It and Boot It defeats Rosé Riveters, 4-0

Toot It and Boot It and Rosé Riveters were battling it out on the dirt and it was an excellent well played game with great defense from both teams.  Toot It jumped out of the gate quickly offensively with a run in the first and two in the second. The score could have been higher, but Rosé Riveters turned a clutch double play to extinguish Toot It’s threat. Rosé Riveters had trouble getting the big kick on this night with their best scoring chances in the third and fifth innings, but were unable to score. Toot It added an insurance run in the sixth and finished off the shutout, 4-0. In Week 5, Toot It and Boot It looks to take down Almo$t Cla$$y, while Rosé Riveters looks to defeat Pitches be Trippin.

Welcome to Death Row defeats Don’t Mosswood Us, 8-0

The inmates of Welcome to Death Row were looking to stay unbeaten, while Don’t Mosswood Us was looking for their first win of the season. Death Row quickly jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first highlighted by a two run double. Death Row would tack on a run in the second and two in the third to extend their lead to 8-0. Don’t Mosswood Us was befuddled by Death Rows defense and had offensive troubles. Their best chances to score was in the third and the fifth, when they loaded the bases with two outs, but were unable to get the big kick they needed to score. In Week 5, Welcome to Death Row looks to beat Dad Bods and stay unbeaten, while Don’t Mosswood Us will try to get a win against Green Grenades

Bar Report

At McNally’s, Dad Bods and Almo$t Cla$$y with a smattering of other teams led the flip cup way in otherwise a pretty light week. Kickballers as usual enjoyed their team shots and drank the night away. There was no King of the Hill this week.
