On a cloudy and cool night in Oakland, there were still two undefeated teams left in Summer 2016 league play.  Would they both still be undefeated by the end of the night? This week’s theme piggybacked on the 4th of July holiday and kickballers dressed up in their best Red, White and Blue. Pabst Blue Ribbon was the sponsor and the winner of the best dressed contest was Heather from Hey Girl, Let’s Kick It. For her onesie Wonder Woman America themed costume, she received a PBR jumbo sized placard, a PBR hat, beanie and also a PBR drawstring bag. How would her team and the rest of the teams do this week?

Welcome to Death Row hands Almo$t Cla$$y first loss, wins 6-3

The battle between veteran teams Welcome to Death Row and Almo$t Cla$$y on the Pabst Blue Ribbon Field was a shootout in the first inning, but turned into a defensive battle later on. Undefeated Almo$t Cla$$y jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first highlighted by a two run double to left field. Welcome to Death Row was not going to go away however and methodically used a double and a sacrifice fly to plate two runs of their own. After that the offenses for both teams went into hibernation. In the bottom of the fourth, the inmates threw the big blow in kicking a two run homer and plating four runs in the inning and taking a 6-3 lead. Almo$t Cla$$y tried to comeback, but their chances of winning the game and staying undefeated went by the wayside. In Week 4, Welcome to Death Row looks to keep up the winning momentum, when they play Pitch Slap, while Almo$t Cla$$y looks to bounce back with a win against Schoolyard Bullies

Schoolyard Bullies drops Hey Girl, Let’s Kick It, 6-1
If you got into your seat by the third inning, you missed all of of the offense in the match up between Schoolyard Bullies and Hey Girl Let’s Kick It. Hey Girl, Let’s Kick It loaded the bases to start the game off using some smooth bunting and baserunning. One run was scored off a sac fly, but they were unable to get anymore. Schoolyard Bullies also loaded the bases in the 1st and were able to score off singles and a sac fly, picking up three runs. The Bullies then scored 3 more in the 2nd on a 2 out rally and a homerun. Solid pitch and defense took place throughout the rest of the game, with both teams putting up zeroes. Hey Girl Let’s Kick It had multiple base runners, however were unable to get another run across. In Week 4, Schoolyard Bullies looks to keep up their winning ways then they play Almo$t Cla$$y, while Hey Girl, Let’s Kick It looks to bounce back with a win against Juan in the Cochinos.

Saved by the Ball shuts out Pitch Slap, 6-0

The battle between Saved by the Ball and Pitch Slap on the Pabst Blue Ribbon field was a great defensive battle all game long with both teams having opportunities early, but unable to cash in. After both teams went three up and three down in the first, Saved by the Ball led off the second with a pair of singles, but a double play by Pitch Slap quickly snuffed out that rally. In the third Saved by the Ball loaded the bases with two outs, but Pitch Slap got out of the inning unscored upon. In the bottom of the third Pitch Slap led off with a single, but three straight pop outs ended their chances. After 4 innings of goose eggs, a team finally broke through in the fifth and that was Saved by the Ball using small ball to their advantage to plate four runs. They would add on two more in the top of the sixth as insurance. Pitch Slap tried to desperately rally in the final half inning, but they were unable to score. Saved by the Ball looks to take down 2 Legit 2 Kick in Week 4, while Pitch Slap looks for a win against Welcome to Death Row

Juan and the Cochinos had 2 Legit 2 Kick first loss, win 14-1

The Cochinos were trying to hand 2 Legit 2 Kick their first loss of the regular season, while 2 Legit 2 Kick had other plans. The Cochinos quickly jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first on some small ball and then some excellent place kicking to the outfield that found grass. They would add on 3 more in the second inning in the same fashion. 2 Legit 2 Kick on the other hand ran into offensive struggles for the first time this season. 2 Legits best threat was in the botton of the third inning when they loaded the bases with one out on three singles. However, they were unable to get any runs across while the Cochins induced a force at home and a pop up to first base. 2 Legit 2 Kick finally got a run on the board in the final inning on a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly to left center, but this was all they could manage is Juan and the Cochinos walked away with a 14-1 victory. Juan and the Cochinos looks to defeat Hey Girl, Let’s Kick It in Week 4, while 2 Legit 2 Kick looks to bounce back with a win against Saved by the Ball.

Bar Report
Flip cup, Dancing and a ton of socializing was the theme at the bar. While ballers discussed their America themed costumes, King of the Hill was in the back. The Final Four consisted of a pair of 2 Legit 2 Kick teammates and a pair of Almo$t Cla$$y teammates. In the end, both of the finalists were from Cla$$y with Austin F. defeating Sophie K. in a flip off that needed instant replay.

On Sunday, kickballers took a break from kickballing to hang out at Snow Park in Oakland, for a picnic on Sunday Funday.

Tacos, chips and salsa were provided by Golden State Kickball.  Beer was provided from Jason Lee, representative from Pabst Blue Ribbon.

After lunch, kickballers hopped into the bubble to play Bubble Soccer.  While the game turned into more of hitting each other with the bubble balls than scoring goals, everyone had a great time.  For information on your own future event, check out Bay Area Bubble Soccer.com

After bubble soccer was completed, kickballers threw the football around, played some beer pong, corn hole and ultimate frisbee.

All in All a great Sunday Funday.
