A mere 9 weeks ago, teams were getting together for their first games of the season for a feeling out period and what a regular season it has been. Many thrills and spills, with close games, blowouts and shocking results. After Thursday, it all comes down to one day–Tournament day. But, first the recaps to find out where every single team is seeded.

Saved By the Ball Walks Over Schoolyard Bullies

The battle for the top seed unfortunately was completely anti-dramatic as Schoolyard Bullies headed to the bar early.  While the players that were left scrimmaged, Saved by the Ball got the top seed for the tournament and will be playing Pitch Slap in the Quarterfinals. Schoolyard Bullies gets the second seed and will be playing seventh seeded, Welcome to Death Row.

Almo$t Cla$$y kicks away Pitch Slap, 10-0

Almo$t Cla$$y and Pitch Slap were both looking to end their regular season on a positive note. Almo$t Cla$$y got things started in the second inning and took the 1-0 lead on some very good place kicking. Almo$t Cla$$y added two more in the third using the same formula to take a 3-0 lead. Pitch Slap had chances to score in the 3rd and 4th innings, but were unable to get the big kick that they needed to push a run across. Meanwhile Almo$t Cla$$y blew open the game late by scoring seven more runs and won by a final score of 10-0. 2 Legit 2 Kick Swipes Third Seed from Juan and the Cochinos Late, 3-1

The battle for the third seed between 2 Legit 2 Kick and Juan and the Cochinos was about missed opportunity and a comeback late. In the top of the first, 2 Legit 2 Kick loaded the bases quickly with three straight bunts. However, three pop ups later, Cochinos was back in the dugout with no runs allowed. Cochinos parlayed this into a run in the bottom of the first using some aggressive base running and small ball. Cochinos had chances in the 3rd and 4th innings to add onto thelr lead, but did not cash in. 2 Legit also had chances in the middle innings, but could not cash in either. In the top of the sixth, 2 Legit found what they were looking for by plating three runs with one out. A string of six consecutive kicks along with some aggressive baserunning gave 2 Legit a 3-1 lead. In the bottom half, Cochinos had the tying run at the plate with two out, but a line drive to short sealed the 2 Legit 2 Kick 3-1 victory. With the win 2 Legit 2 Kick as the third seed will play Almo$t Cla$$y in the Quarterfinals, while Juan and the Cochinos takes the fourth spot and will face fifth seeded Hey Girl, Let’s Kick It

Hey Girl, Let’s Kick It edges Welcome to Death Row 5-4

A back and fourth game betweeen Hey Girl, Let’s Kick It and the inmates of Welcome to Death Row was a close one run game with Hey Girl picking up the 5-4 win. This game included a pair of lead changes and two ties. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the inmates had a chance to tie and win it with the tying run at first base, however a pair of flyouts ended the game and gave Hey Girl the 5-4 victory. The game was highlighted by some excellent outfield play by both teams with running catches that kept the game close throughout. Hey Girl, Let’s Kick It will be the fifth seed for the playoffs and will face fourth seeded Juan and the Cochinos in the Quarterfinals, while Welcome to Death Row is the seventh seed and will look to pull the upset against Schoolyard Bullies.

Bar Report

Kickballers came rushing to the bar Thursday night following their games to get their hands on some nachos provided by GSK. After the nachos were devoured, people played round after round of flip cup. In the front of the bar, teams psyched themselves up for the tournament by partaking in team shots. The jukebox was blaring and people were dancing. There was no King of the Hill, but there was a raucous cheer for the newlyweds, Stephanie Tews and Mike Sheldrick. I think it’s safe to say they enjoyed their nacho reception.

Almo$t Cla$$y fought back taking the lead with a pair of runs highlighted by a pair of singles to right field. Down to their last chance, Welcome to Death Row loaded the bases with one out. The kicker then kicked a ground ball to third base and the fielder tagged third and threw home hitting the runner in the back ending the game and giving Almo$t Cla$$y the 5-4 victory. Bar Report

Another Thursday, another night of kickballers drinking and schmoozing at McNally’s. Would Stretch buy another pound of shrimp for his late night snack? Would another Almo$t Cla$$y member take the KOTH title? Will anybody remember the events to write about them in the morning? Luckily, you’re about to find out! Sorta…Almo$t Cla$$y dominated the flip cup table for the majority of the night. Sophie from Cla$$y was desperate to retake the throne of KOTH but Eric, from Schoolyard Bullies, wanted to prove that other teams can play, too. Unfortunately, he fell short, and Sophie wound up victorious. Trent from Juan and the Cochinos and Schoolyard Bullies teammates Steven and Jon rounded out the Top 5, respectively. For a second week in a row, Selena’s song, Bidi Bidi Bom Bom was played, which got the front of the bar dancing. Will anybody besides an Almo$t Cla$$y member take the KOTH title this season? Will GSK continue to purchase too much beer? Stay tuned…
