On a beautiful night at Mosswood Park Thursday night in Oakland, teams are battling down to the wire for playoff positioning.  Would Highland Hitman remain undefeated for another week and would AfterDarc finally get their first win that they have been craving?  Let’s get to the recaps from this exciting week of games and see if there would be a standings shake up.

Hitmen Roll past Captain Morgan’s Revenge, stay Undefeated

An early offensive outburst from the Hitmen proved too much for Captain Morgan’s in this battle between two teams jockeying for position at the top of the standings. The first inning provided a ton of excitement with both teams getting on the board.  The leadoff man for the pirates turned a would be single into a round tripper. That 1-0 lead for Captain Morgan would be their only lead in the game as the Hitmen quickly struck back for 5 in the bottom of the inning on well placed bunts and timely kicks. The first four runners reached and the mercy rule 5 spot put up by the Hitmen was capped off by a 1 out, 2 run double.  Captain Morgan’s crawled back into the game with 2 runs in the top of the second on a bases loaded, 1 out double to pull within two, but those 3 runs would be all the pirates could muster against the stingy defense of the Hitmen. The next few innings saw little offensive excitement but in the bottom of the fifth the Hitmen scored 2 more to pad their lead and bury Captain Morgan’s for good, winning the game 7-3 to remain undefeated. Next week, Highland Hitmen hope to stay undefeated when they play against Whistle Kicks, while Captain Morgan’s Revenge looks to bounce back against the East Bay Ballers.

Throwback Thursdaze Busts out the Offense, beats AfterDarc

Two teams in opposite directions do battle in a high scoring game.  Throwback Thursdaze has come off 2 wins in a row while After Darc still has yet to get a win, but has been playing more competitive of late.  Knowing that, Throwback didn’t let up scoring 7 runs in the first 3 innings playing small ball and getting several multi base hits.  AfterDarc would make things interesting in the 5th scoring 2 runs with 1 out and the bases loaded.  Throwback clamped down on defense to hold them to 2 runs.  In the bottom of the 5th, Thursdaze looked to lock up the win with a solo shot and then another insurance run.  Final Score Throwback Thursdaze: 9, AfterDarc: 3.  In Week 8, Throwback Thursdaze looks for a win against Purple Rain, while AfterDarc looks to get their first win of the campaign against Almost Classy.

Whistle Kicks defeat Almost Classy

A blue moon may have been overhead, but the true stars were on the field in the Whistle Kicks and Almost Classy matchup.  Both teams looked to overcome last week’s losses. The scoring started quickly with a line drive down the third-base line plating the first run in the top of the first. After that, both teams tightened up their defense. In the bottom of the third inning, Kicks were able to get on the scoreboard and take the lead with some aggressive base running. Down 2-1, Classy had a runner on first and the kicker launched a ball to deep left field for a home run and the lead. However, Classy’s 3-2 lead wouldn’t last long.  With the sun down and the lights blocked by the trees, Almost Classy’s pitcher had trouble finding the plate.  An unfortunate bases loaded walk tied the game.  Whistle Kicks continued to pour it on, scoring 3 more in the inning to take a 6-3 lead.  Classy was unable to mount a comeback, falling 6-3.  In Week 8, Whistle Kicks looks to keep up the winning momentum when they face Highland Hitman, while Almost Classy looks for a win against AfterDarc.

Ballers Walk Off on Death Row in a Classic

In a clash of arguably two of the top teams in the league, we had one of the best battles this season.  In the first inning, both teams played small ball to get a run apiece.  In the top of the second, Death Row broke out the big guns with a 2 run homer to deep right, then adding another insurance run to make it 4-1.  Bottom of the 4th had the Ballers comeback written all over it.  With 1 out and bases loaded, Ballers smacked a deep double into right field scoring 3 runs to tie the game.  Another base hit gave Ballers the lead 5-4 heading into the 5th, but the inmates were not going to die easily.  Timely bunting got the tying run in scoring position which a line drive to left field score them in.  With the game tied at 5 going into the 6th, everyone could feel a walk off in the air.  Due to some errant fielding, the Ballers scored quickly to win the game and walk it off.  East Bay Ballers: 6, Welcome to Death Row: 5   In Week 8, East Bay Ballers face off against Captain Morgan’s Revenge, while Welcome to Death Row looks to bounce back with a win against The Rolling Clones.

Rolling Clones and Purple Rain play to Draw

Purple Rain struck first with back to back bunts, followed by a well placed single into center field to score the first run.  Rolling Clones had a big 3 run home run to right field that was almost caught by the outfielder in the bottom if the 2nd.  Purple Rain struck back immediately in the 3rd with a bunt and back to back doubles to even the score at 3-3.  Defense then took over the rest of the game.  Both teams threatened to score multiple times but we’re unable to get anything across the plate.  The game went so quick that a 7th inning was played.  Rolling Clones had a Web gem double play to tag the runner out at 2nd after a valiant running attempt.  The game ended in a tie and both teams went to McNally’s to eat blueberry pancakes and drink libations.  In Week 8, The Rolling Clones look to defeat Welcome to Death Row, while Purple Rain looks for a win against Throwback Thursdaze.

Bar Report

As usual, McNally’s was jumping this week with kickballers.  There was no honey whiskey this week, but the team shot was still very good.  Kickballers co-mingled in the back with lots and lots of flip cup and King of the Hill was not existent this week.  Maybe next week?  Stay tuned and see if we crown a champion…

On Sunday, kickballers took a break from kickballing to hang out at Snow Park in Oakland, for a picnic on Sunday Funday.

Tacos, chips and salsa were provided by Golden State Kickball.  Beer was provided from Jason Lee, representative from Pabst Blue Ribbon.

After lunch, kickballers hopped into the bubble to play Bubble Soccer.  While the game turned into more of hitting each other with the bubble balls than scoring goals, everyone had a great time.  For information on your own future event, check out Bay Area Bubble Soccer.com

After bubble soccer was completed, kickballers threw the football around, played some beer pong, corn hole and ultimate frisbee.

All in All a great Sunday Funday.

The Beach was at Mosswood Park in Oakland Thursday night as kickballers relaxed on the field and kickballers tripped all over those basking in the sun while laying on beach towels.  No, that did not happen, but the beach theme was seen all over Mosswood.  Let’s get to the recaps on from this epic evening.

Purple Rain rains down on Almost Classy’s parade

After a shutdown top of the first, Purple Rain quickly got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the frame.  Almost Classy was determined to keep the game close, and scored three of their own in the top of the second to tie the game.  Purple Rain were able to load the bases and get the clutch hit they needed posting a 5-spot to take the lead. After pouring on four more in the third inning, Classy simply was not able to recover, losing 3-12.  In Week 7, Purple looks for a win against The Rolling Clones, while Almost Classy looks to bounce back against Whistle Kicks.

Solid Defense Helps Ballers to 5-1 Win over Whistle Kicks.

Two middling teams look to help their playoff position in Week 6 to solidify a bye in the tournament. The Ballers are coming off a three game win streak looking to make it four.  Scoring started in the top of the first with great baserunning and a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0 Ballers.  Whistle Kicks tied it up in the bottom of the 2nd due to multiple fielding errors by the Ballers.  In the top of the fourth, Ballers broke things open with multiple bases loaded hits and tacked on four runs. The Kicks didn’t do much of that as the Ballers kept them in the dugout. East Bay Ballers: 5, Whistle Kicks: 1.  In Week 7, East Bay Ballers will face off against Welcome to Death Row, while Whistle Kicks looks to bounce back against Almost Classy

Captain Morgan’s Revenge hands Death Row First Loss of Season

In a tightly contested battle all the way through between two teams at the top of the standings, one kick proved to be the difference in this one as the swashbuckling – turned beachcomber – pirates, handed Death Row their first loss of the season. With excellent pitching and defense on both sides, this one remained tight early with each team plating only one run in the second inning on strategically placed bunts, kicks, and speed on the base paths. The pirates continued the scoring and took their first lead the next inning on a cheeky bunt with two outs and a man on third. While not quite a suicide squeeze, the bunt was placed well enough to cause Death Row to make an unsuccessful attempt on the runner at first, allowing the baserunner at third to score easily. Their lead would not last however as Death Row’s potent offense rebounded to score a run in the top of the fourth and again in the top of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. The bottom of the fifth proved to be a heartbreaker for Death Row as they let a 2-out rally mount as Captain Morgan’s Revenge loaded the bases. With the bases loaded, the pirates capitalized on a huge kick down the left field line to score all three runners and take a 5-3 lead. That was all the scoring in this battle as Captain Morgan’s gained a huge win against an undefeated team.  In Week 7, Captain Morgan’s Revenge looks to take down Highland Hitman, while Welcome To Death Row looks to defeat East Bay Ballers

Hitman stay Undefeated, defeat AfterDarc

AfterDarc showed up Thursday night, hungry for their first win. They gave Highland Hitman a run for their money, but in the end, they came up short. Unable to get any offense going in the first two innings, AfterDarc gave up two early runs, one in the first and one in the second. In the third, AD found their offense and plated two runs, tying the game momentarily. In the bottom of the third, however, the Hitman kicked a two-run homer to retake the lead. They would add two more in the bottom of the fourth. AD refused to go down easy. They found their offense again in the top of the sixth and were able to score twice. However, the comeback came up short. The Hitman held on to a tight game, winning 6-4. In Week 7, Highland Hitman look to stay undefeated when they face Captain Morgan’s Revenge and AfterDarc looks to pick up a victory against Throwback Thursdaze

Thursdaze defeat Rolling Clones in a Wild Sacrifice

On the dirt Thursday night, Throwback Thursdaze and The Rolling Clones played a tight defensive game, taking a 1-1 tie into the bottom of the fifth.  After loading the bases with no outs, the Clones were able to plate two runs and take the lead 3-1.  Thursdaze wouldn’t go down without a fight, however.  They loaded the bases themselves in the top of the sixth and got the key kick they had been looking for all night.  A long ball drove in three runs and gave Thursdaze the one run advantage. In the bottom of the sixth, the Clones had themselves set up for a comeback win, but some errant baserunning lead to a Thursdaze victory, 4-3.  In Week 7, Throwback Thursdaze looks for a win against AfterDarc, while The Rolling Clones look for a win against Purple Rain.

Bar Report

The bar was packed again on Thursday night as kickballers rolled in dressed ready to hit the beach. Tobias poured teams more of that delicious American Honey and flip cup was alive and well in the back room. There were members from almost every team taking part in flip cup, and teams mixed and mingled for the relay competition. King of the Hill was sidelined for another week. Will it come back next week? Come to the bar to find out.

On a beautiful night at Mosswood Park on Thursday, the red ball flew over the field as two teams tried to stay undefeated.  As we reach the midway point of the season, teams are jockeying for playoff position.  Even though there was no theme this week, there was food aplenty at the bar along with the awesome team shots.

Death Row stays Undefeated; Shuts Out Whistle Kicks

In a battle of two teams fighting for position at the top of the standings, both Whistle Kicks and Welcome to Death Row brought their A game to this one. This game started off as a defensive standoff with both teams mounting 2 out rallies in the first only to come up short as the defensive play and pitching of both sides shut the door. Death Row opened the scoring in the third on a 1 out, bases loaded sacrifice fly to center field to take a 1-0 lead. Continuing to put pressure on Whistle Kicks, Death Row put runners on in the fourth and fifth but could not score. Whistle Kicks struggled offensively in this one putting only one runner in scoring position for the entire contest. The pitching and outfield play of Death Row was stifling as the league’s top dog played seemingly error free in the field. Death Row would get one additional run in the sixth to put this one out of reach going on to win 2-0 in an excellent contest against two fairly matched teams.  In Week 6, Welcome to Death Row looks to stay undefeated against Captain Morgan’s Revenge, while Whistle Kicks looks for a bounceback win against East Bay Ballers

Captain Morgan’s Revenge scores Early, defeats Rolling Clones

Two teams coming off close losses in Week 4 looking to bounce back in week 5.  Captain Morgan’s Revenge started the fire brigade early in the bottom of the 2nd inning with some excellent base running allowing them to five-bag the inning with outs to spare.  Rolling Clones would make it interesting in the 5th adding 2 runs while CMR’s catcher was too drunk to stand.  Revenge added an insurance run in the 5th with some sneaky base running.  The Clones had a chance to come back in the top of the sixth by adding a run, but CMR’s defense prevailed. Captain Morgan’s Revenge: 6, Rolling Clones: 3 – In Week 6, Captain Morgan’s Revenge look to hand Welcome to Death Row their first loss of the season, while The Rolling Clones look for a bounceback win against Throwback Thursdaze.

Hitmen Pull Away from Purple Rain Late, win 9-5

In a tightly contested back and forth battle, Purple Rain gave the undefeated Highland Hitmen a brief scare but couldn’t hold it down defensively. An excellently played top of the first by the Hitmen’s defense provided a spark for their offense in the bottom of the inning scoring one run on a cheeky, well placed bunt with 2 outs that scored the runner from third. Purple Rain’s offense looked anemic through 2 innings but were finally able to break through in the third plating 3 runs with help from the Hitmen’s sloppy outfield defense to take a 3-1 lead. The Hitmen would begin their climb back into this one with a run in the bottom of the third to pull within one run of the Prince Fan Club. In the bottom of the fourth the Hitmen would go ahead on a 2 run single to take a 4-3 lead only to see the Purples come back to tie the game in the top of the fifth. What was a tight, well played game by both sides became a blowout in the bottom of the fifth when the Hitmen put up a 5 run mercy rule inning to put Prince to bed. The Purples would mount a mini comeback in the top of the sixth but couldn’t muster up enough offense to complete the upset bid going to to lose this contest 9-5. In Week 6 the Highland Hitmen look to continue their undefeated season as they square off against the winless After Darc while Purple Rain looks for a bounceback win against Almost Classy.

Ballers keep AfterDarc Winless, take Defensive Struggle

East Bay Ballers was looking to go to 3-2 while AfterDarc was looking for their first win of the season.  In the bottom of the first inning with two outs Ballers kicked a solo homer to right field with two outs.  After that, the defenses took over for both teams limiting baserunners the rest of the way.  There were two three up, three down innings on both sides with a few threats late.  In the 5th, AfterDarc got their first two runners on via single.  A pop out retired the next kicker, then a pop up to left with the runner going was caught and the runner was doubled off to end the inning.  Ballers had a chance in the bottom of the fifth to add up, but a great catch by the right fielder and the left fielder prevented further damage.  AfterDarc had one more chance to try and score getting a one out single, but East Bay Ballers got the next two kickers including a foul out to end the game in favor of Ballers 1-0.  In Week 6, East Bay Ballers looks to keep winning when they face Whistle Kicks, while AfterDarc looks for a win against Highland Hitmen.

Thursdaze Trounce Classy for 1st Win of the season

Magic was in the air Thursday night as Throwback Thursdaze looked for their first win against Almost Classy. Thursdaze got things started with 2 runs in the 1st with some great 2 out kicking. A home run in the 3rd and more clutch 2 out plays gave Thursdaze a 5-0 lead in the 4th.  For a team that has given up the most runs in the league, Throwback looked like a team on a mission with some fabulous fielding that would make Derek Jeter look like an infant.  Almost Fair couldn’t buy a break fouling off multiple hits by inches that could have been big plays.  Sometimes that’s how the cookie crumbles.  Throwback Thursdaze: 5, Almost Classy: 1.  In Week 6, Throwback Thursdaze looks for a win against The Rolling Clones, while Almost Classy looks to bounce back with a win against Purple Rain

Bar Report

After the games, kickballers headed to McNally’s for pizza, breadsticks, beer, and team shots, which once again was the awesome honey whiskey.  The only concern of the evening was Little Caesars actually believing that GSK ordered 17 pizzas and a handful of breadsticks at 9 pm at night.  “Oh, they are going into the oven as we speak,” they said as Stretch and Naomi walked into the pizza joint liked they owned the place.  Once the pizzas were at the bar, GSKer’s enjoyed themselves and Almost Classy had some flip cup competition battles between them.  After that teams became the colors of the rainbow as the red cup was being flipped all over the bar.  There was no King of the Hill this week as the bar game of choice was slap cup, which as usual gets quite messy.  Will King of The Hill return next week?  We shall see next week….

Some rare July rain did not stop the kickballers from playing Week 4 Thursday night at Mosswood Park in Oakland.  In fact, some kickballers revelled in the liquid coming from the sky.  In a humid night at Mosswood, there were two undefeated teams left and would they stay that way after the night was over?

Hitman Take Down Throwback Thursdaze

This game matched up two teams headed in two different directions. Highland Hitmen coming into this one was sitting at 3-0 and looking unbeatable through their first 3 games, while Throwback Thursdaze at 0-3 were still looking for their first win of this summer season. However, this proved to be an exciting game with Throwback Thursdaze looking to play spoiler. Hitman would have no part of that and quickly opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on excellent bunting and heads up baserunning, taking advantage of a missed fly ball in the outfield. They would again plate a run in the second to take a 3-0 lead after two frames. In the top of the third, Thursdaze would fight and  claw their way back on a big 2-out, 2-RKI rally capped off by a line drive down the right field line. Hitmen saw their lead crumble to 4-3 and Thursdaze momentarily sniffed a possible upset of the top dog in the league. That chance was all but buried in the bottom half of the frame, however, where the Hitmen answered with four of their own on excellently placed kicks and retook the lead 7-4 after three. The excitement would not stop there as Thursdaze, eager to prove their kickballing mettle answered once again with two in the top of the fourth to cut the Hitmen’s lead to 7-6. Unfortunately that would be all Thursdaze would get in this one as the Hitmen clamped down defensively to pitch a shutout the rest of the way. Hitmen would add to their score in the bottom of the fourth on the back of a 3 run homerun to right to extend their lead to 10-6. The scoring would end there with Hitmen claiming a well deserved victory 10-6. In Week 5, Highland Hitman look to stay undefeated when they play Purple Rain, while Throwback Thursdaze looks to defeat Almost Classy.

Death Row Stays Undefeated Knocking Out AfterDarc

AfterDarc was gunning for the first win of the season against the inmates of Welcome to Death Row and they come out of the gates on fire scoring a run on the top of the first.  After that Death Row locked down their defense and allow just a run the rest of the game despite multiple threats by AfterDarc.  In the 3rd inning, Aisha of WDR (on a perfectly placed bunt) manage to trip, stumble, face-plant, somersault and crawl to 1st base, which propelled Death Row to get their offense going and plating eight unanswered runs and staying undefeated in league play.  In Week 5, Welcome to Death Row tries to stay undefeated when they face off against Whistle Kicks, while AfterDarc looks to get a win against East Bay Ballers

Classy Walks Off Rolling Clones in a Thriller

Rolling Clones quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a two out rally in the first with a whole bunch of singles.  After a scoreless second with great defense played by both teams, Classy responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the third highlighted by a pair of line drive singles and a sacrifice fly.  Each teams traded runs in the fourth and then Classy was looking to close out in the sixth, however Clones was not going down without a fight.  A leadoff double and quickly, the tying run was in scoring position.  The next kicker lasered a single and with a close play at the plate, the referee signaled safe and the game was tied at 4.  Rolling Clones however was unable to take the lead, which gave Almost Classy a shot to win it in the bottom half.  With two outs Classy began their uprise.  A double and then an infield single put the winning run at second base.  The next kicker blooped one into the outfield that landed just out of the outstretched Rolling Clone defenders and Classy walked off with a 5-4 victory.  In Week 5, Almost Classy looks for a win against Throwback Thursdaze, while The Rolling Clones look to bounce back with a win against Captain Morgan’s Revenge.

Cinderella Whistle Kicks take down undefeated Captain Morgan’s Revenge

A lot of smack talk was going around last week at the bar regarding this matchup as both teams wanted to prove their hot starts were not flukes.  Whistle Kicks backed up their talk early by playing fundamental kickball; great fielding, baserunning and timely hits.  This led to an early 6-1 lead by the Kicks in the bottom of the 3rd.  Then the kickball gods got bored and decided to make the game more interesting. As the rains came down, fielding the ball became difficult to say the least.  Both teams capitalized extending the score to 11-4 in the bottom of the 6th with CMR down 7.  The lineup and field conditions looked ripe for a comeback with the Pirates scoring 4 runs, leaving the based loaded without an out, making it 11-8.  The Kicks digged deep and made some great defensive plays, but the Pirates still scored 2 more runs with 2 outs this time.  With the game winning runs on 2nd and 3rd, CMR’s luck just ran out with a final pop out to first.  A thrilling game concludes Whistle Kicks 11, Captain Morgan’s Revenge 10.  In Week 5, Whistle Kicks looks to hand Welcome to Death Row their first loss of the season, while Captain Morgan’s Revenge looks for a bounce back win against The Rolling Clones

Ballers Score Early, hang on against Purple Rain, 8-5

With a light rain coming down, Purple Rain was sure to be in their element against East Bay Ballers.  However, it was East Bay Ballers that scored early and often in the first three innings.  Picking up a single run in the first, three in the second and four in the third on some well placed kicks, Ballers were balling.  In the bottom of the fourth it was time for Purple Rain to unleash their venom with a five run mercy rule inning on some excellent place kicking.  After a scoreless fifth, Purple Rain had one last chance in the bottom of the sixth.  With runners on first and third with one out Purple Rain was unable to get the big kick that they needed to tie the game.  In Week 5, East Bay Ballers look to stay in the winning track when they face AfterDarc, while Purple Rain looks to recover with a win against a tough undefeated Highland Hitman team.

Bar Report

The bar atmosphere was alive and well Thursday night. Kickballers came to escape the rain and enjoy some beverages with their compadres. Flip Cup competition heated up in the backroom with teams determined to demonstrate their midseason form, on and off the field. King of the Hill was finally brought back. Stiff competitors and full tables led to round after round of one player being kicked off the table. At the end, five members remained: two from Almost Classy (Kayley and Talicia), two from Purple Rain (Helen and Krissy), and Trent from Highland Hitman. In the end, Trent defeated Talicia for the first King of the Hill Crown of the season. Speculators say the refs should keep a close eye on Trent in next week’s KOTH. Other players are hoping that he can become dethroned. Come to McNally’s next Thursday to find out what will happen.

Photos from Thursday Night are posted here!

GOLDEN RULE OF THE WEEK

Rules are rules and every sport has ‘em.  This week we look at the base running.  Brush up on further rulebook knowledge here to make Golden State Kickball a fun time for everyone!

3.7 Baserunning

  1. Baserunning
    1. A Baserunner may not leave their current base until the ball is kicked
      1. No stealing or leading off is allowed
      2. If a Baserunner is off the base when a ball is kicked they will immediately be called out
    2. A Baserunner must stay within 3’ of the baseline

3.7.2.1 A Baserunner has priority to the base path area of the field unless a Defender is actively making a play on the ball

  1. A Baserunner may not interfere in any way with a Defender making a play on the ball.  This includes touching, obstructing, yelling, intentionally touching the ball, or any other action at the discretion of the Referee which obstructs play.  A baserunner who obstructs a fielder will be immediately called out
    1. A Baserunner must avoid colliding with a defender when advancing to a base.  Intentionally colliding with a Defender will cause the Baserunner to immediately be called out and be ejected from the game
  2. A Baserunner may run past 1st base after kicking.
    1. Baserunners doing so must run past the base in a straight line and return to the base immediately

If the Baserunner at any time makes an advance towards 2nd base, they may be tagged out before returning to a base

Week3

America was the theme Thursday night as Golden State Kickballers hit the fields before the long holiday weekend.  With the excitement of the weekend, the red kickball was flying further than usual all over Mosswood Park.

Death Row Puts Down Purple Rain

With several players missing, it looked like Death Row was in for a battle against the stacked Purple Rain.  Death Row made it very clear in the beginning that their reserves were just as talented as their starters with putting up 4 runs in the first with timely hitting. Purple Rain answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the third and fourth. Unfortunately for Purple Rain, every time they answered with a run, so did Death Row never letting Purple Rain come closer than 3 runs.  Death Row decided to unleash the firing squad in the top of the 6th and put Purple Rain out of their misery. Welcome To Death Row: 12, Purple Rain 4.  In Week 4, Welcome to Death Row tries to stay undefeated in league play when they face off against AfterDarc, while Purple Rain looks to rebound with a win against East Bay Ballers.

Captain Morgan’s Revenge takes care of AfterDarc

A slow moving game at first, After Darc kept it close looking for win number 1 on the season but found the swashbuckling pirates flying the Jolly Roger too much in the end. The game opened with excellent bunts by Captain Morgan allowing them to plate the first two runs of the contest. A couple of three up, three down innings followed before Captain Morgan increased their lead to 3-0 with a run in the third with a home run. After Darc would strike back in the bottom of the inning but couldn’t seem to get an offensive flow going the rest of the game. The pirates would continue to plunder and pillage After Darc increasing the lead with 3 runs in the fourth and fifth and another in the sixth to cap off their 10-2 victory. After Darc was overmatched defensively for much of the game as the pirates bunted, kicked, and ran at will. Captain Morgan’s Revenge puts their undefeated record on the line against Whistle Kicks, while AfterDarc looks for their first win of the season against Welcome to Death Row

Whistle Kicks squeak by The Rolling Clones in a Defensive Battle

Runs were at a premium in this low scoring affair. In the top of the third, Whistle Kicks opened the scoring with a timely base hit with a runner in scoring position. The Rolling Clones tried to answer, but were unable to advance a runner past second. WK kept their 1-0 advantage until the top of the 6th. An over-throw at second base allowed a run to score. A single followed scoring the runner on third. Down to their final 3 outs, RC were able to scratch out a run. With the tying run at the plate, the kicker lined out ending the game 3-1. In Week 4, Whistle Kicks looks for their third win in a row when they face Captain Morgan’s Revenge, while The Rolling Clones look to snap their two game losing streak against Almost Classy.

Ballers crush Throwback Thursdaze for First Win of Season

This game looked to be a pretty even matchup of veterans and newcomers with each side looking for their first victory of the season. The ballers opened the scoring in this one in the bottom of the first by plating 4 runs in an epic singles rally. Thursdaze would cut the lead to 4-2 in the top half of the second on back to back rbi doubles. That would be all the scoring they could muster, however, as EBB clamped down defensively. Ballers had their offense rolling and put up another 4 runs in the third on a bases loaded double and excellent kicking. They would stretch the lead once again in the fourth by plating 3 more on sharp singles to the infield and outfield and some nice aggressive baserunning. They would finish their rout in the 5th by plating an additional run on an rbi triple. Thursdaze couldn’t get their offense or defense in gear in this one and were routed 12-2 in EBB’s first win of the season. In Week 4, East Bay Ballers look to level their record when they face Purple Rain, while Throwback Thursdaze looks for their first win of the season when they play Highland Hitman.

Hitman Knock off Classy to stay Undefeated

Highland Hitman defeated Almost Classy 4-2 in a back and forth exciting affair.  In the bottom of the first, Classy struck first on a two out single to right field.  Hitman would quickly respond back with a two out single of their own, but this time to centerfield.  In the home half of the second, Classy would respond with a sacrifice fly to retake the lead, but could have had much much more if it wasn’t for a great catch by the left fielder.  After a scoreless third, Hitman took the lead on a two run single to right field.  Classy tried to respond with runners on first and second with one out in the bottom half, but they were unable to get the run home.  Hitman would add another run in the top of the fifth and Classy’s offense continued to struggle the rest of the way, unable to get the big kick that they needed to tie the game.  In Week 4 Highland Hitman look to stay undefeated when they face off against Throwback Thursdaze, while Almost Classy looks to bounce back with a win against The Rolling Clones.

Bar Report

Players rolled into McNally’s on Thursday night sporting in their red, white, and blue. Some were celebrating victories on the field while others were enjoying the fact that they didn’t have to show up to work today. The best surprise of the night? The shot was from a real alcohol bottle! Honey whiskey, for the win! In the back room, flip cup was alive and well. Some teams wanted to prove who was the champion on their team and squared off in a round-robin style. Other teams combined. Almost Classy and Purple Rain faced on in a best of five series in flip cup. Everybody won, considering the beer was free (provided by GSK) and everybody playing got to drink some. Other teams joined in on the action, with players subbing in and out as the night went on. For the third week in a row, King of the Hill was sidelined. Who will bring the KOTH tournament back to life? Will Tobias provide us with regular whiskey next week? Tequila? Come to the bar to find out!
